My great grandmother died this morning. I'll likely be in Connecticut early next week.
She and I were very close, especially when I was a kid. I spent a couple of Summers at their house near the lake in my hometown, and I remember enjoying that time a lot, despite the fact that I had to sleep in a creaky old hospital bed with the bars on the sides raised up. I will always remember the dinners she made for us, pasta fagioli and pasta piselli - though I never ate the baccala. I'm glad I was able to make Thanksgiving for her, and that I was always able to make her proud of me.
I can plainly say that we had an unconditional love. She lived a very full life, probably more full than I'll ever know. I was very lucky to know her.
