I saw an apartment on School Street in Hyannis today, and I liked the place enough to put a refundable deposit on it. It's the second floor of a "captain's house" above the office of the owner (an electrolysis and cosmetic surgery guy). It's an older house, but it is well kept and very, very charming. It's got a bedroom, a living room, bathroom, and a kitchen and dining area - the bigger of the two rooms faces the harbor and beach (a five minute walk) and has two walls of windows that get the sun all day long. There's a slanted ceiling on one side (the doorway into the room has a slant) and there's an octagonal sitting area that is all windows with the harbor view. There's no washer and dryer, but there are hookups, so maybe I can talk them into that eventually.

The other room is large and square with a domed ceiling, and there's a connecting hallway between the two - both have huge walk-in closets, and there are built in drawers in the domed room and the kitchen. All the rooms have large wooden plank floors, but the domed room has a carpet and the kitchen has linoleum. The bathroom's a little small, but has a tub, and the kitchen prep area is also small, but that can be fixed with a large mobile cart/island kind of thing. The electric stove is also small, but it's functional and everything's pretty clean. Heat and electricity are included in the rent. They're replacing the carpet and repainting all the walls this weekend.

But last and most importantly - they're letting me have a cat!!

It's really close to everything, and the people renting it seem very nice. My disarming manner won them over totally, as predicted. :)

Pictures at some point; I'm going to call them back and ask about coming in again to take measurements for stuff...

The Fog of War is a fascinating movie. Visually, it's very captivating, but without being totally inherently biased in the way a Michael Moore film would be. Hearing it come from the mouth of the man who lived through and participated in most of warring during the twentieth century is just incredible.

[EDIT: Oh, and Phillip Glass was the perfect choice for composer for the film. All the historical file footage matched to his industrial minimalist musical stylings was just great to watch. It was also amazing to see the contrast between the aged Robert Strange McNamara and the young man who appeared constantly in the historical footage. I kind of want to watch it again...]
