Wikipedia.org is having a fund drive for their web site - they have a goal of $50,000.00.
If you've never heard of Wikipedia, I highly recommend a visit there. It is a free online encyclopedia, in multiple languages, which is editable by anyone (hence Wiki). I find it fascinating and incredibly useful - in my mind, it's the next Google/killer Internet app... except for the fact that it's non-profit and free in all senses of the word.
They've almost raised $30,000.00. A free, non-profit, online encyclopedia is 3/5 of the way towards its fundraising goal. That is completely and utterly amazing. I intend to donate some money their way after I pay my bills this month. Now, if Wikipedia could just make an off-planet storage site and make ruggedized free wiki browsers available to people all over the world, The Alexandria Project would be a reality.
I've started contributing material; my first act was to add to an entry about Baron Munchausen. It's actually quite a lot of fun to edit and add text.
