Lynn Cheney says John Kerry's reference to her daughter in last night's debate was a "cheap and tawdry political trick."

Kerry was asked by the moderator if homosexuality is a choice. He noted that Vice President Dick Cheney's daughter Mary is a lesbian. Kerry said Mary Cheney would probably say that she was born that way. Lynn Cheney says Kerry invaded her family's privacy.

She says it gave her another chance to "assess" John Kerry, and she says it only reinforced her opinion that "This is not a good man." Cheney says she's "speaking as a mom, and a pretty indignant mom."

And then last night on The Daily Show, they had a clip of her and Dick in Hawaii where she dressed up her granddaughter as DEATH and said she was in costume as "John Kerry's health plan."

It seems she has no problem using her own family when it suits her agenda.

I am wearing contacts today for the first time.

When the doctor was explaining how they work and putting them on me, I was getting a little giddy and excited. I felt almost the same way I did when I put on glasses for the first time 15 years ago, looking at the world in a whole new way. Not having the weight and pressure of glasses on my face is going to take a little getting used to. The sensation of "things" in my eyes is going to take some time to adjust to as well.

It's just so weird, being able to see without glasses. We'll see how I feel in a week or so...

The man whose books taught me about computers and operating systems (Andrew Tanenbaum, currently running electoral-vote.com) posits this nightmare scenario:

"Should the election end up in the Supreme Court, it is not known whether Rehnquist will particpate in the case and vote on the outcome. Should he decline to participate due to ill health, the deadlock in the country might end up in a Court itself deadlocked 4-4. In such an event, the lower court ruling stands but no legal precedent is set. An alternative scenario is that Chief Justice Rehnquist resigns and that President Bush makes a recess appointment, which does not require Senate confirmation. If Bush were to appoint a new justice without Senate confirmation who then cast the deciding vote to make Bush president I fear for the future of the country. Let us hope somebody wins big today with no litigation. Do your part and vote."

How does Bush get a 300,000 vote margin in Florida in four years?

Does it help to disenfranchise hundreds of thousands of voters? Who knows how those electronic voting machines are actually working - will we ever be able to verify how people actually voted in this election?

It's so insane that we can't protect people's right to vote. Jim Crow is alive and well, isn't he?
