Sunday Debrief
Dec. 20th, 2004 12:22 amSo, I decided to go get my comics in Worcester on Sunday afternoon. I actually went this time via 195-95-146 instead of 495-290, and the route through RI is about 25 minutes faster with light traffic; I got to Worcester in under two hours. I picked up my books and headed over to the Bean Counter for a drink and a cookie.
On the way in, I had called Jess to see if she wanted to hang out. It turned out that her parents were having a family gathering at dinner time, and she ended up inviting me over for "wonderful shrimp primavera". Yes, wonderful - if I wanted to die!! :) But she insisted on having me over, and as it turned out her step-uncle(?), who is something of a chef, actually made me my own dinner: chicken and pasta with garlic and lemon in a white wine sauce. Superb!
I was horribly underdressed for dinner, seeing as how I wasn't expecting to be a guest over anyone's house, but I tried to make up for my lack of fashion sense by bringing a dozen Dunkin' Donuts for dessert. I was really, really embarrassed about not having worn something nicer, and also because I had gotten lost on the way to her parents' house, and also because I had a nagging fear that I might have some kind of allergic reaction just from being around the shrimp and where it was cooked... and my nervousness showed quite a bit. But everyone was very nice to me and extremely gracious, so I was eventually a little more at ease.
Jess gave me a tour of the place and showed me some of her more interesting possessions... it turns out we have similar pack rat habits. She has 2 dollar bills and old pennies just like I do, and she saves a lot of old things for unknown reasons. But none of this really surprises me anymore because at this point I am convinced that we're basically the same person (except for one or two key differences).
And hey, the donuts were a hit. Go me!
