Jan. 14th, 2005 02:33 pmI heard about the Millenium Project on NPR yesterday. They're releasing details of the plan on Monday - the gist is that if the plan is followed, we can *eliminate* the extreme poverty conditions that one billion human beings are living in today by 2025. We can save half those people in ten years for $150 billion a year, put them in sustainable economies with improved health and education for everyone.
That cost represents 0.5% of the global economy. 500 million human lives improved for 50 cents out of every 100 dollars.
The United States alone has almost spent that much on a pointless war in Iraq. Is it better to have killed hundreds of thousands of people, or to start saving the lives of hundreds of millions?
