If there is at least one person in your life whom you consider a close friend, and whom you would not have met without the Internet, post this sentence in your journal.

I finally got to watch GITS 2: Innocence last night. After watching it, I found that I didn't enjoy it as much as I enjoyed the first one, yet I really couldn't say exactly why... maybe just the animation style, or the fact that so much 3D animation was blended in with the 2D?

Anyways, it also occurred to me that GITS is Kusanagi's story, and that she represents "the Ghost", while GITS 2 is Batou's story, and he represents "the Shell". Batou discusses paths with Togusa in GITS 2, and says that Togusa's path is through his daughter; Togusa represents the traditional "human" representation, reproducing normally and living with little enhancement. Kusanagi transcends consciousness and expands her Ghost into the Net, while Batou lives his life almost exactly as Camus's Stranger would - the ultimate existentialist, the embodiment of Yin and earth - opposite to Kusanagi's Yang.

In your article at this link:

http://www.capecodonline.com/cctimes/edits/cctblogs/reviews/archives/000921.htm

your reviewer, Eric Gershon, wrote:

"Ani," the woman cried out, "I wish you’d marry my brother."

I was at that concert, and I was seated in the section where that woman was seated. I clearly heard her yell: "I wish you'd marry my daughter."

I hope that neither your reviewer, nor either of yourselves, chose to misreport what that woman said for some discriminatory, homophobic reason. Though I don't claim to speak for others, I imagine that every person attending that show would be offended by your doing such a thing, that the woman who said it would be disappointed that her words were misrepresented by your paper, and that Ani herself would likely be disgusted with anyone who did so, if this were the case.

Though I don't expect to see a correction published, I hope that you will forward this letter to Mr. Gershon and that all of you will try harder in the future to report things accurately, as any good newspaper would.

sincerely yours,
Michael Caprio
