Let The People Vote???
Jul. 11th, 2006 09:37 amMassachusetts has decided to ignore its courts and allow people to vote on whether or not gay people should have civil rights. If we had let people vote on every judicial decision, we would have:
- a Confederate States of America
- black people wearing very fashionable chains of the non-bling variety
- no Miranda rights (well, those are almost moot now anyways)
- mandatory prayer in public schools
- mandatory pregnancy (now available in many states anyway)
It seems like these are the things Republicans and red staters want though. I wonder how much of this "culture war" is between people with American roots older than 5 generations versus "newer" immigrants like me? I'm just not feeling this Puritanistic bullshit, and I sure don't long for the good old days of people not having rights.
