New Friends!
Jan. 21st, 2007 12:12 pmYesterday I went to Dr. Sketchy's anti-art school at the Lucky Cat Lounge and had an awesomely terrific time. The model was dressed as a clown, and looked great. I wasn't quite expecting the level of complexity in her dress though... there were lots of ruffles and details, and as I hadn't sketched in a very long time, I felt a little overwhelmed. There were tons of really talented artists there though, I was really impressed with a lot of what I saw.
But the coolest part of yesterday was that I got to meet some new friends. One of the photographers there (Ryan, also a comic artist) and I got to chatting, and it turned out we were similarly geeky in the realm of comics and other such things, so he introduced me to a few of his friends, and it was all very cool. The four of us took Justin's car (Ryan's assistant) back to Steve's place (Ryan's longtime friend, and a comic artist) in Park Slope. We basically sat around for five hours talking about comics and bullshitting and watching cartoons, and then ordering takeout for dinner.
It was so, so great to connect with like minds. I knew that I would meet a lot of good people when I moved out here, but I had no idea it would be as easy as it's been so far!
