I want to be a LION TAMER!
Sep. 6th, 2007 10:35 amLast night,
kitteridge and I went to the 92nd Street Y to see Michael Palin being interviewed by Lorne Michaels (birthday present tix provided by kitteridge!) and had a few good laughs. Michael is plugging his book, newly released here in the states - a collection of ten years of diary entries from 1969 to 1979, covering "The Python Years". It ran a bit over an hour, and was really interesting; I have a sense that there's so much compelling history behind the man, and I definitely want to buy a copy of the book (they were selling copies there with an opportunity to get them signed, but I didn't really feel like waiting in line at the time).
Mr. Palin is also genuinely good humored and I imagine would be terrific to have a few drinks with. Lorne Michaels on the other hand... he seems like a really hard man. Years of running SNL may have given a very keen edge to his humor, but they also may have turned him into something of a bastard. Purely first impressions of course, but I tend to have good senses about people.
