I want to unify all my data and make the laptop my central repository, so I decided to start using the Mail client on my MacBook (I previously downloaded all my address book data off GMail and my PDA and reconciled it). I turned POP on in my Gmail account. I wasn't sure I'd get everything if I did that, but apparently I have gotten every single thing I've ever archived on there.... over 10,000 messages saved spanning over three years.

I haven't removed everything from Google's server yet, I'm still a little bit leery about making the switch totally, but at least I can now use Time Machine to back up my email. Now I'll have three copies of it for redundancy, and I'll own two of them. I'm going to have to think about encrypting my external backup disk too.

I incorporated my Yahoo account into Apple Mail as well.

Now if only I can figure out how to get the received text file I saved from my old World account imported into it, I may just have 13 years of emails consolidated into one client...

The CEE

You know what I would really like to see? I would like to see a Fortune 100 company create a position called "Chief Ethics Executive" (to distinguish from CEO). A top level executive whose sole job is to ensure that a company stays profitable, just not at the expense of human health and welfare. They would be empowered to make changes in the company, have access to information as any other top level exec would, and otherwise advise boards and shareholders as to the course of action that is both most ethical and most profitable.

Kind of like an ombudsman, someone keeping a human face on the decisions. Someone who says: "Well Bob, if we did cut the budget and relax our toy testing program, thousands of kids could get lead poisoning. That's not good for anybody, and not actually good for the bottom line despite the short term benefit to your department."

Was it Noah who got my MythOs box from the old apartment... does anyone know who's got it, or if it got trashed?
