The Other Black Friday
Dec. 26th, 2008 11:02 pmNOT. I saw no doors being busted at either shopping center I visited today. But there was an abdicated Santa throne and an eerily empty Christmas landscape in the middle of the Crystal mall.
I did buy three Pyrex dishes with lids and a 4 cup measuring glass for $20 at the Tanger outlets today. Not bad! I also got stainless steel measuring cups and spoons, and a magnesium spark firestarter (mainly for neatness value). My goal has been to remove all plastic and nonstick coated items from my kitchen; all I need now is a nice stainless steel funnel.
This year is going to be a bloodbath for retail. I have to wonder what's going to happen about mid-January - will all the merchandise go to the discount stores? Will anybody buy any of it, or will it go overseas or something?
