You are so right about the chance thing. I walked away originally from veg-blow-up and freaked out thinking I totally blew it and missed my one time opportunity. Then all of the sudden she was there, so I mustered up some confidence and well, you know most of the rest.
My advice for anyone who skips taking the chance is - life is too short -always go for it, especially when its right within your reach.
