I met a neighbor tonight! She lives just down my block and she's a freelance writer for the New York Times travel section.
How did I meet her?
I found her wallet on the sidewalk near the pizza place up the street. It still had cash, cards, ID and everything in it, so I figured she must have just immediately lost it. I picked it up, saw her address on the ID, and walked right down to her apartment - nobody home. But when I came back to leave a note, I tried her bell one more time, and this time she popped her head out the window and shouted "Do you have my wallet??".
She was pretty ecstatic; and I can't blame her, I know what it's like to lose everything like that. She wanted to reward me with a twenty, but I refused of course. So I got a hug instead and made a nice neighbor friend and made the world a slightly better place. Good enough for me!
