Does anyone actually ask why *white* people hang shoes? I have to admit I got bored with all of the non-answers though I did watch most of it.
My favorite part of the whole thing was the "translation." Especially the comment about "High Hill Shoes."
Snopes has some thoughts on the subject, though not Billyburg specific:
