Dodgeball is easily the best movie I've seen so far this Summer. It is SO FUNNY. Funnier than Shrek 2. Holy moly.

the south park guys and the zucker brothers do a movie about a slacker sport. Oh, it's funny alright. I highly recommend it. Being a moderate sports fan, I particularly liked how it skewers the ridiculousness of pro sports (ie teams changing cities, playoffs lasting months at a time, etc).

Team names: The Milwaukee Beers, the Dallas Felons, the LA Riots, the San Francisco Ferries, the New Jersey Informants, the Miami Dealers, the Roswell Aliens.

When I saw the trailers for dodgeball, it was the first thing I thought of.

Dodgeball feels like a Zucker style movie. It's got a lot of layers of humor though, which is pretty cool. I think I'll have to see it again to catch more of the jokes.

Have you ever seen Permanent Midnight? It might change your mind. The book (by Jerry Stahl) is also pretty damn fine, if you're into crazy drug fueled rages of true life.

like fear and loathing? I downloaded that movie because my boyfriend loved it and I hated it so much I stopped in the middle of the movie and wiped it from my drive. There was another one... um... the one with the chick from the labrynth and the mother on speed. I enjoyed that movie.

That one was "Requiem for a Dream", directed by Darren Aronofsky, the same guy who did "Pi". Fear and Loathing was by Terry Gilliam, who also did Time Bandits, 12 Monkeys, and the Adventures of Baron Munchausen. I would put Permanent Midnight on the Requiem side more than the Fear and Loathing side--it's not crazy trippy like Fear and Loathing (also a fantabulous book by Hunter S. Thompson). But it's also not as gut wrenchingly bleak like Requiem.

note: I own all three of these movies on DVD and watch them pretty frequently, as well as Trainspotting. I love living vicariously through crazy drug movies.

fear and loathing (the adjectives, not the movie) are a pretty good way to describe how I feel about drugs, and so I tend to not really enjoy crazy drug movies. I've seen too many lives destroyed, including my little sister's. c'est la vie

That makes more sense now. I was originally going to comment that the movie makes more sense if you've read the book first, otherwise it's just chaos. There's also lots of deeper meaning if you look for it, like the metaphorical comparison to drugs and what was going on at the world at the time (or practically any time...)

But I can understand you not wanting to the movie or movies like it.
