Step One - Get a lot of money
Nov. 3rd, 2003 05:23 pmI'd really like to get a new tablet laptop. In my preparations for the novel writing thing, I resurrected my crappy old laptop. The abominable thing whirs like a jet engine; I'm sure it'll just up and die one of these days, undoubtedly at the worst possible time. Probably not the best thing to be writing on, but it's the most convenient at the moment. It would be so much nicer to have something faster that didn't make so much noise - and I could draw on it too! That would be awesome, a digital sketchpad with Photoshop on it.
It's also a little tough to write in the apartment without any moderately comfortable place to sit. I've replaced the sagging futon with several floor pillows, and the squishy swivel chairs in the dining room have transformed into rickety wooden folding chairs. Which brings up the next object of desire temporarily outside of fiscal reach... a luxurious, comfy couch.
After that, my next want is a washer-dryer unit. I've got a hookup available in the kitchen just waiting to be used; it would be so incredibly nice to not have to drag bags of laundry out of the house and scrounge for quarters all the damn time.
The awful thing is that I probably would need about $5000.00 to get all this stuff (step one). And if I had that much money... it should be used to reduce debt, not to make major purchases.
You know - if I wrote 500,000 words a year, and I got paid $0.20 per word... I would make six figures. That's only 2,500 words a day for 200 days. I *know* I could do that...
