I'd really like to get a new tablet laptop. In my preparations for the novel writing thing, I resurrected my crappy old laptop. The abominable thing whirs like a jet engine; I'm sure it'll just up and die one of these days, undoubtedly at the worst possible time. Probably not the best thing to be writing on, but it's the most convenient at the moment. It would be so much nicer to have something faster that didn't make so much noise - and I could draw on it too! That would be awesome, a digital sketchpad with Photoshop on it.

It's also a little tough to write in the apartment without any moderately comfortable place to sit. I've replaced the sagging futon with several floor pillows, and the squishy swivel chairs in the dining room have transformed into rickety wooden folding chairs. Which brings up the next object of desire temporarily outside of fiscal reach... a luxurious, comfy couch.

After that, my next want is a washer-dryer unit. I've got a hookup available in the kitchen just waiting to be used; it would be so incredibly nice to not have to drag bags of laundry out of the house and scrounge for quarters all the damn time.

The awful thing is that I probably would need about $5000.00 to get all this stuff (step one). And if I had that much money... it should be used to reduce debt, not to make major purchases.

You know - if I wrote 500,000 words a year, and I got paid $0.20 per word... I would make six figures. That's only 2,500 words a day for 200 days. I *know* I could do that...

20 cents per word?

I had a gig where I got paid $0.50 per word for a monthly column... but it was a 1000 word cap. So that was only about $6000 a year for one column. I'd have to do 17 columns like that to hit the six figure mark. Still - a column a day for seventeen days? I can work a month like that...

1. Tablet PC's, based on my experience with them, aren't there yet. Wait until they're more powerful and have all the bugs worked out. The one I've used at work is still a bit slow, and would be tedious running anything other than office or websurfing. I think I would be in tears if I had to use photoshop on it. I also found the handwriting recognition to be painful unless you have perfect, slow handwriting. The one we have has a keyboard that swivels out and turns around so you have a landscape screen with a keyboard. I love writing with it that way, but that defeats the purpose of having the pen. For just writing, it's great and weighs a lot less than a laptop.

2. Furniture: I am also wishing I had more comfy things to sit on in my apt. I have a BJ's Warehouse Club membership, and they sometimes have cheap furniture. I've also seen beanbag style chairs that are shaped more like a recliner with an ottoman for a hundred something at newbury comics if that's in your price range. Those round cushiony chairs on a wicker base are usually pretty cheap too.

3. Laundry: I still hate laundry, but I now go to the laundromax on park ave. You get a card that you put money on so no quarters and they have a ton of huge washers so I only have to go once a month to a month and a half and I can do laundry in mass quantities.

mucho trabajo, pocito denero

1. i wish i could get a job and keep it, then ill work on moving out of my parents place.

2. i know it sounds gross, but...the best comfy furniture i ever had in my stint out of mommies house i bought at salvation army. yes, good ole sally's. it was a double wide chair, over stuffed, and the most wonderful thing you could ever fall into late at night and watch tv.

3. if i only wrote more, oh the money i could make. wait.... i think ive heard that before, oh yeah! i said that too! course, i never let people read my work..i think thats why i dont make money, teehee.

I know several people at publishing companies, which category (thriller, horror, ??)
Can you send over a one paragraph summary of the work, as well as your bio.

Have to do a headshot for your back cover, soon!

The genre is fantasy and murder mystery. A cross between CSI and Harry Potter. It'll be a series of books starring a detective protagonist, a "non-magical investigator".

I'll have a manuscript within a month...
