I Heart My Doctors
Nov. 5th, 2003 03:18 pmI was seen by one of the four doctors in my doctor's office today (not my primary), and she explained to me the anatomical causes of ear infection.
Basically, it is this: the eustachian tubes, the passages that connect throat to ear, get blocked - either by an adenoid / tonsil or simply because they are too small themselves. When that happens, fluid with bacteria and gunk from the throat and nose build up, and works its way back to the ear. All of this makes perfect sense because I was congested for most of last week until just a day or two ago; so the congestion caused blockage, and that caused the infection.
I was given big honkin' antibiotic pills and told to take a decongestant as that might help too...
I love that my doctors take the time to explain things to me instead of just sending me packing with prescriptions or whatever.
