Meat Pie Meat Pie...
Apr. 5th, 2004 11:16 amTonight I start making meat pies. I'm going to make nine of them this year: one for the deli, two for Brittany, three for me, and three going home for Easter (for my folks, my Nonny C, and my Nonny D).
I went to the Stop & Shop and the S&S deli today out in West Boylston. Man, that Stop & Shop is SO much better than the one in Lincoln Plaza. I bought the cheese I needed there, and I also picked up a package of Supreme table cheese (basket cheese)... I'm noshing on it for lunch today (yum).
I bought all the meats I'd need for the pies at S&S, my absolute favorite deli; I also picked up some ham and cheese for lunch, and some fresh Widoff's Italian and foccacia bread (it's like CRACK), as well as a sweet Irish soda bread from the bakery upstairs. Can you tell I didn't eat breakfast today?
I haven't bought everything I need yet (still have to get milk and eggs and pie shells), but I estimate the pies cost about $12.00 each to make (but I like to use high quality ingredients, so you get what you pay for). I'm keeping all my receipts so I can cost it all out better tomorrow.
If you got a low carb pie shell for it, you could call it Atkins Pie and sell them for $22.00 each. :)

Superhero moment of the day
Apr. 5th, 2004 04:16 pmI was on Salisbury Street, about to turn right on Grove Street - and I noticed a lot of smoke coming from two cars in front of me. We pull forward, and I see a big puddle of green fluid on the street, and the van in front of the sedan in front of me has smoke coming from underneath it.
We pull onto Grove, and I start waving my hands and flashing my lights at the car in front of me. The doofus has no idea what I'm trying to communicate to him... even though the smoke from the van in front of him is obvious. We pass Northworks, and I speed past him on the right towards the van - I continue driving up and start hitting my horn and flashing my lights at the van, to no avail. The only thing I can do before this guy gets on the highway is to pull past him and in front of him and get him to pull over... so I race up to him and give him the "pull over" sign, then pull past him and cut him off, and he finally pulls into the Sovereign Bank parking lot. As soon as his van stops, smoke begins to billow up and out of the vehicle, and he finally figures out that something is wrong. I call 911 to alert them about the van, and seeing as nothing else extreme is happening, I take off.
So there you go. More good karma in the bank for me.
