Gau Repair

The General is hospitalized today for a minor procedure. He went in in good spirits, and should be fine. He's been in discomfort the last few days because of a partial urinary blockage (and a bladder the size of a tennis ball), so today he is being sedated and catheterized and having fluids pushed through his system to flush him out. I'll be picking him up and bringing him home at the end of the day, and I'll have to keep an eye on him and bring him in for a followup tomorrow morning.

It's a possibility that his dry food was a root cause of his blockage, but I don't think it's necessarily because of that whole pet food recall thing. However, I will be switching him over to Newman's Own organic wet food ASAP, and researching homemade food solutions for him.

Gau Update

Gau is now home. I have been given a literal bevvy of medications to administer to him, every two hours.

good news: he has no visible crystals or stones. Which means the blockage is not being caused by calcification, which could be rough to treat.

bad news: blockage could reoccur. I have to watch him very carefully. He's going on a special diet of wet food again. There seemed to be some kind of muscle spasming in his bladder that could have contributed, which the medications should help - potentially brought on by stress? Maybe he's upset that I'm not in the apartment as much. :(

Poor guy is so nervous and scared... his paw is all wrapped up with an IV catheter in case he needs more treatments, so he doesn't have to get stuck again.

Mr. Pathetic

Boo boo kitty is so drugged up and stupid-head with his big dilated green eyes... his left front foreleg is all shaven, and they left an IV catheter in him so they could pump him up with fluids easier, so his front leg's all bound up in a bandage. He walks around like a gimp, and when he sits on the couch to lay down on me, he drapes the front half of his body over my leg, and then swings the gimp paw up over his head and throws it onto me like a useless stick. He's practically dragging it around like quasimodo or something.

So pathetic my boo boo!!!
