Who Wants To Undermine The RIAA And MPAA With Software?

Nina Paley is an indie animator who wants to legally distribute her movie using music that is in the public domain. The problem is that "synch royalties" will cost her over $500,000(!) to obtain, and multiple companies claim 100% ownership of the same royalties(!!!). Wouldn't it be great if someone wrote free software that synced music and video?
