Well, one way to undermine the efforts of terrorists is to downplay their activities--evacuate the people who are at risk an don't make a spectacle of it...
On all of the trains entering Queens (1st stop) the Citibank Building, there was only an announcement "Flooding on the tracks". The trains had been running perfectly since Saturday PM after the rain - so where did this new water come from?
Once above ground, there were several thousand people scattered about looking for a way home into Queens. One square mile of street was taped off with 3 colors of tape (red, yellow and orange). Cops were vacating nearby apts and moving cars away from the area.
One cop told someone to get "as far away as you can" to someone. I really don't think we had flooding yesterday - THAT would have been newsworthy!
Nine firetrucks, bomb squad , ambulances, 10-15 police cars - is scary to have less than a mile from your house, and no one knows what actually was happening.
