I saw Unprecedented and Unconstitutional last night - it turns out the Shaughnessey Theatre is an art house theatre right up the street from me in Hyannis. They've got a digital projector and a twelve foot screen, squishy couches to sit on, and a little cafe to get snacks from.

These movies really got me ripped as hell. The Bush family and its Republican cronies truly stole this nation right out from under our noses - thousands upon thousands of Democrats were denied their right to vote in Florida (many of them were black and labeled as felons by a database matching system that Republican election officials deliberately designed to remove Democratic voters). If we had truly recounted all the votes in Florida in 2000, the world might be a completely different place today. Instead the Republicans sent political operatives to actually subvert the election process and performed a number of illegal actions to carry Bush into office. DO NOT DOUBT that they already have a ton of dirty tricks lined up for this election.

ILLEGAL. Do you get that? Do you understand that we have had a man in office for the last four years who conspired with his brother and the Republican party to swindle his way into world leadership?

The other movie, Unconstitutional, elaborates on the myriad ways that the 345 page USA PATRIOT act undermines our Constitution. A document filled with legislation that had been previously voted down by Congress, swept into law to expand the powers of our the Justice Department right into secret police/KGB territory.

These conspiratorial assholes sneer at us and at everything our country stands for. They piss all over the world and fill their fists with money and laugh at us for giving them the power to do so.

I generally take all such films with a grain of salt. It could be anti-bush propaganda. The thing that really irks me, is the fact that no one can give me a straight answer with documentable proof on the Iraqi Weapons of Mass Destruction question.

These films really aren't anti-Bush propaganda. If you saw them, there wouldn't even be a question of that. If anything, Unprecedented might be anti-Jeb Bush, anti-Katherine Harris, and anti-all-election-officials-in-Florida and anti-Republican-political-operatives. But the film clearly has footage of a protest that shut down a ballot counting center in Miami, and almost a dozen of the people in the crowd were identified as senior aides to Republican officials. It also has footage of illegally counted absentee ballots from military servicemen who voted *after* the election as shown by their postmarks. Katherine Harris was responsible for Florida elections *and* was part of the Bush campaign. Can you say "conflict of interest"???

You really can't say that there's a lot of spin in these documentaries. Unconstitutional may play on emotions a bit, but that film has footage of things like police dressing in plain clothes and wandering through crowds pepper spraying peace protesters six inches from their face, and footage from C-Span and interviews with Republican politicians saying how insane the PATRIOT act is.

Don't bother with logic. Cynicism is also pretty much right out, unless it's about our current president and his policies/administration/talking to God. Try again after the election.

The neat thing about our justice system is that the accused is innocent until proven guilty. It's supposed to be one of those fundamental ideas our government was based on... like equality etc. Too bad that's only seen in history lessons and not reality. Anyway, getting back on topic. No Proof = Innocent = Why the fuck did we start a war?

This was only true until the PATRIOT act was passed. Now anyone can be held for any reason for an indefinite period of time without any due process or anyone ever being informed. And that's anyone, not just people who are "suspected terrorists".
