mik3capSo, a timeline, of sorts:
1904 - Iris and Justin (Alexei) are in America with their mother. They somehow get in a train wreck, and are being chased by a man who wants to kill them (a templar, perhaps?).
?? - Scutter travels to Babylon, kills a man with a pickaxe, possibly all the miners in a cave-in.
1916-1917? - Scutter goes to Europe to fight in WWI; encounters a bear attacking a Russian officer and runs into Lodz and the carnivale.
1918? - Scutter joins the carnivale, meets Flora Hawkins and has a child with her.
? - Scutter joins the templars?
1934 - Ben Hawkins murders someone and becomes part of a chain gang, escapes to be at his mother's side.
Flora Hawkins dies.
Ben Hawkins joins the carnivale.
I think the Russian officer might be Iris and Justin's father. Scutter and Justin are about the same age; Sofie and Ben and Gabriel are all about the same age as well. Maybe Ben and Gabriel are half-brothers? I'm also wondering whether Sofie is a "child of darkness" - maybe she's the one who's causing her mother to be unable to move.
