I cracked my laptop screen last night before bed without realizing it. When I woke up this morning and turned it on, it had this incredibly pretty image, like a woman running towards me from off in the distance... I immediately thought it was some kind of weird virus, but quickly figured out it was the LCD broken in such a way as to be accidentally beautiful. My next thought was "oh, it's just Paprika" because I was still half in a dream state upon first waking. :)

Pictures and video to follow later when I have a chance to take them. Video because the colors change in a really cool way when it's booting up. The laptop still appears to be functional, but I'll have to plug it into my monitor to use it.

A site I frequent has an ad that makes it look like your screen is slowly cracking.

Stinky that it was broken, but very cool that you could find the beauty in destruction.

Also, Matt is looking to get into the working world of technology, he said he thinks you're very cool, because he remembered hearing you talk about your job at Jess and Scotts going away party and thinking that he wanted to be like you someday. Got any advice for him?

Well first thing is, I've been working for almost ten years now, so I've got a lot of experience under my belt. I've also had a pretty diverse career up to this point, so I can't say that I'm really an expert in any one technology, but I've had exposure to a myriad of platforms and software and different kinds of companies (even participating in running my own company at one point).

If there was any characteristic necessary to be in my line of work, it's problem solving ability. And knowing how to solve a particular problem is not as useful as knowing how to figure out how to solve problems in a general way. That may not sound like the most coherent piece of advice, but I think you've inspired me to make a longer post about my work experiences and lessons learned to date. It's about time I re-examined my career. :0

Goodness. Well thank you for the advice, I will most surely pass it along...and where do you think you will be posting this work experience entry? Here or your other blog?

Many thanks.
