If you've never read the book, don't. Go see the movie, enjoy it (note that it's a drama, not an action film), absorb it, then go back to the book and get the rest of the story. It's a really well done movie... practically an art film really.

Don't bother going to see it in IMAX. It's NOT an action film.

Oops bought IMAX tickets anyway. Besides, I don't think "action" when I think "IMAX" -- I think "cinematography." This is because I grew up watching science films on IMAX at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia. Are there stunning vistas, etc?

Mmmm... I've seen more stunning. Honestly the DP wasn't that great, some of the performances were a little flat. Overall the art direction was amazing and the effects were done well and they preserved the story so that stayed solid... but nah, not worth it for IMAX scale.

LOL! If I decide to see the film it won't ruin the book. That's going to be my new moviegoing philosophy #2. #1 is set low expectations so you won't be as disappointed. :)

That's actually really useful advice. I was waiting for the copy my sister gave me to come in before I made plans to see it.
