A couple of days ago, I decided I wasn't going to shave again until I submitted a short story for publication. I'm going to write around 2000 words or so and I'm going to try scifi.com, as they pay $0.20 a word. I figure if I can sell 12 stories a year at that rate, I can pay my rent with writing. I like that idea lots and lots. It only takes me a couple of hours to write 2000 words; 40 or so hours of work a year for rent, I figure.

I may be wild and wooly when you next see me. But I intend to do this before leaving for Hawaii.

There's a very regal looking bluejay perched on a tree branch outside my window.

Do not even tell me your rent is $400 a month. I swear I'll cry.

Nah, it's more like $500 unless the landlord cut him a break for being the only guy there.

But rememeber it *is* 18 Sturgis street and the dead walk the floors.

Okay, I won't tell you how much I pay for my 3BR 2nd floor of a triple decker apartment that I live in all by my lonesome...

Good luck with this task but remember, the first 2000 words are a first draft. Never stick with your first draft. Even literary geniuses don't stick with their first drafts. If you can write ONE publishable story in 40 hours, I'll be really, really impressed.

This is hard work, the competition is fierce, and you will have to strong and persistent to make it happen. I think you *will* make it happen, but please don't set yourself up for failure by thinking this is going to be easy.

I'm not trying to discourage you, and I hereby offer critique & crying shoulder free of charge, but your goal is much harder than it may appear.

Good luck & Godspeed, writer dear.

Prepare to be impressed.

;)

(luckily I did not establish a condition of successfully selling a story before being able to shave... I just have to mail the damn thing)

I am prepared! And I hope for it. ^_^

I propose a bet:
You mail the story when it's been written. If it gets accepted, dinner is on me, at the time & place of your choosing. If NOT, you pay for dinner, and I'll help you revise it. Seriously, I am queen of critique, editor extrordinaire. You win either way.

Whaddya say?

How could I refuse? I win either way. :)

How do you submit writing to them?
And what are the criteria?
